Jose Luis Boente

Boente is a contemporary artist born in 1962, who studied Fine Art at the esteemed Facultad de Bellas Artes in Barcelona. With a career that began in his youth, he has consistently showcased his work in various galleries and public institutions, establishing himself as a significant figure in the art community.

His recent body of work centres on still lifes, characterised by innovative use of materials such as cardboard and wood. Boente’s choice of cardboard, as opposed to traditional canvas, imbues his pieces with a unique warmth and texture, creating an engaging dialogue between the objects and their backgrounds. This approach not only enhances the visual appeal but also invites viewers to explore the relationships between the depicted items.

In his paintings, Boente demonstrates a meticulous attention to colour, skillfully balancing hues to achieve harmony within each composition. The incorporation of cardboard often results in a collage-like appearance, adding depth and complexity to his work. His artistic style is rooted in realism, yet it frequently incorporates elements of neo-impressionism, punctuated by surrealist details that draws the viewers in.
